Membership Requirements
Membership Section, 310th Virtual Fighter/ Bomber Squadron

Membership in the 310th Virtual Fighter/Bomber Squadron is open. Prior online gaming experience is preferred, but not required.

Our philosophy is simple. Our first and foremost objective is to have FUN! We compete to win and expect Squad loyalty. We require that all pilots subscribe to a Code of Honor when participating in any Squad related activity. All Rules required for any sanctioned Squad competition must be adhered to. Squad pilots must, at all times, respect the rights of the other participants in the competitive arenas. These and other membership requirements are outlined in the 310th Virtual Fighter/Bomber Squadron Standard Operating Procedure . If you have any questions, please contact any of the 310th VF/BS Wing Commanders, Squadron Members or our Commanding Officer. Thank you.

I. - Standard Operating Procedure

Section A. - 310th VF/BS Group Membership, Participation, Promotion, and Final Authority
Section A.-1 - Membership Requirements:
A.) Philosophy:
All member pilot candidates must subscribe to the basic Philosophy of the 310th VF/BS:
- Maintain the 310th VF/BS primary objective of having fun whenever possible.
- Compete at all times with "honor".
- Subscribe to self-improvement through Squad training flights and flying regularly whenever possible with Sqaudron pilots.
- Commit themselves to Group loyalty. The 310th VF/BS has built lifelong friendships by just being here.
- In consideration of our historical namesake, the 310th Fighter Squadron, and due to our belief in the Principles embraced by the Allies during World War II, the 310th VF/BS flies only Allied aircraft in sanctioned competitions and events. This is not a censorship of Axis aircraft or the pilots that flew them. But for all other purposes we will fly, from time to time a few captured German aircraft when it best suits our strategic needs.
B.) Code of Conduct:
- Treat others ALWAYS as you would like to be treated.
- Always be willing to assist your fellow Group pilots, if asked. If not asked, offer to help.
- Always represent the 310th VF/BS in an exemplary manner. You are a representative of the 310th VF/BS whenever you are flying online.
- Profanity is not prohibited, but is severely frowned upon. Please remember, that there are young people participating in this hobby too.
- At no time, will any 310th VF/BS pilot fly or formally associate with any other virtual Squad or Group considered a legitimate competitor in sanctioned competitions.
C.) Required Simulations/Software:
You must own or have access to copies of one of these flight simulation games: Ubisoft/Maddox Games' IL-2 Sturmovik / IL-2 Forgotten Battles. These are the primary simulations that we participate in. All pilots are also required to have MSN Messenger and Roger Wilco or Teamspeak2 before the Group training period begins. All of these are freeware programs and can be downloaded directly from the Internet. (please see our Links Section or our Download Section)
Section A-2 - Participation Requirements:
A.) Required Participation Level:
The 310th VF/BS doesn't set participation requirement levels on any of it's pilots. We have members who have been a part of the 310th since it's inception and have real-life issues that must be dealt with on a regular basis. We do however request that all members try to maintain contact with the Group through use of the Forum, email or online communications whenever possible. But for training purposes, and just for a good time we would like to see all of our pilots attend our Sunday night Squad meetings. This will help unify us as a squadron as well as give us all a chance to get to know one another better. Although as stated above attendance is not mandatory.
B.) Initial Probationary Period:
After initial approval of any application, the requesting pilot will be assigned Warrant Officer (WO) status until the Group probationary/training period (60 days) is complete. This is to give both the Group and the WO a time period to get adjusted to each other. If for any reason whatsoever, the WO feels during this time that he doesn't fit in/believe in our philosophy, this would be the time period for that to be discovered. The Group training period is self-paced and is conducted online in the theory of combat flight. We will not tell anyone how to fly. We'll just show you the effective ways and let the individual decide. The final say in approving the completion of the probationary/training period is the respective Squadron Command Staff. Please Note that the same applies for applicants to our Bomber Wing Crew members as well. The exception here will be that all bomber crew applicants will begin training with the rank of Private and begin promotions from that rank. In this instance Promotion to pilot will depend on these conditions,
1. Approval from our Bomber Wing Commander
2. Availability of an open pilot slot in the roster
3. A combat flight assessment by the our command Staff
No one has ever been thrown out of the 310th VF/BS after becoming a member. There have been instances when the philosophy of the Group has had to change from time to time and that has caused differences of opinion and people have left to pursue other avenues, but never was anyone removed from the Group for it. The 310th is a group effort. Every member has a say in any matter concerning the Group. Feel free to voice these concerns at the Group Forum anytime it is felt to be necessary.
Section A-3 - Promotion Policy
A.) Promotion Requirements:
All new pilots will enter the 310th VF/BS as a Warrant Officer (WO). Their status will be "Training". Upon completion of the 310th VF/BS probationary/training period, their Status will advance to "Active". They will then be promoted to the rank of Flight Officer (FO) and be able to participate in any/all organized competitions the 310th VF/BS is participating in, if any. Participation in any organized competition is encouraged, but in no way is it required.
All new bomber crew members will enter the 310th VF/BS as Private. Their status will be "Training".  Upon completion of the 310th VF/BS probationary/training period, their Status will advance to "Active". They will then be promoted to the rank of Private First Class (PFC)  and be able to participate in any/all organized competitions the 310th VF/BS is participating in, if any. Participation in any organized competition is encouraged, but in no way is it required.
The rank "system", if you will, portrayed by the 310th VFBS is based somewhat on some military standards. Meaning, rank is a reward for longevity throughout a career. In the military, rank is what is used to signify progress throughout a career. With quite a few of the Group members already over the 1 year mark, the virtual career aspect has already begun for many. { Note that the ranking system for Enlisted will be added here soon. Enlisted service is on a voluntary basis only.}

B.) Merit Promotion:
There are certain circumstances that may warrant a merit promotion regardless of the TIS and TIR standings. These circumstances can include exceptional contributions to the 310th VF/BS either in an administrative support role or outstanding leadership and performance in sanctioned Group events. The pilot in question must have a formal recommendation from his Squadron CO. Final approval is by unanimous acceptance of the HQ Operations office.
C.) Waiver of Promotion:
Any 310th VF/BS Pilot/ or Crew Member can refuse a promotion at any time for any reason. He must advise his Commanding Officer of his intentions in writing via email. All waivers of promotion will be considered by a Board of Review, consisting of the HQ Operations office and the pilot's CO and XO. This Board will convene at the earliest possible time after receiving this notification.
Section A-4 - Final Authority:
The Final Authority on all matters of discipline and/or Group Policy is a panel of members from the HQ Staff and all active squadron CO's/XO's. This panel will meet whenever it would be required as dictated by events.

If you are still interested, meet the requirements and subscribe to our philosophy....JOIN us today! We fly primarily through the Hyperlobby gaming interface. Whenever you're there, just let one of the Group members know that you're interested. We are a pretty personal Group (by that it means a lot of Group members have become great friends over the years and interact outside the Group, too) and we like to participate in various flights with potential members to make sure that the "fit" is right. Also, you can leave a message at the 310th VF/BS Public forum, found in the Squad Room (sorry about all  the pop-ups they will soon be gone form this site). If you have any further questions, feel free to contact any of our pilot's at your conveiance.
